Irish Enter Second Half Of Fall Baseball Season; Blue-Gold Series Set For Oct. 4-6

The Notre Dame baseball team’s fall season has entered its second half, with the annual Blue-Gold intrasquad series set for Oct. 4-6 (Tues.-Thur.) at Eck Stadium. The daily seven-inning games will begin at 4:00 p.m. EST and are open to the public, with assistant coaches Terry Rooney and Cliff Godwin serving as head coaches for the respective intrasquad teams.

• Updated Roster – the ND baseball roster has been updated on und.com to include the eight freshmen (note that possibly walk-on additions have yet to be finalized) … RHP Kyle Weiland has assumed the #33 jersey worn the previous four seasons by Scott Bickford while utility player Ryan Connolly is wearing the #14 previously sported by Matt Edwards … the other newcomers will be donning jersey numbers that were not used during the 2005 season: infielder Evan Sharpley (8), third baseman Eddy Mendiola (10), catcher David Hum (15), RHP/IF Jeremy Barnes (23), LHP Sam Elam (24) and RHP David Phelps (35)

• Sept. 29 – head coach Paul Mainieri will discuss the program’s goals and progress during fall ball

• Sept. 30 – Rooney will check in with his fall-baseball update, specifically providing a look at the progress of the Irish pitching staff

• Oct. 2 – Godwin will participate in a Q&A that will provide Irish fans with a glimpse into the newest member of the Irish staff

• Oct. 3 – team rosters and game-1 probable starting pitchers will be announced for the Blue-Gold series

• Oct. 4-6 – for the first time ever, und.com plans to provide live GameTracker stats from each of the Blue-Gold games (game reports, complete stats and photos also will be posted after each game)

• Summer Ball and Pro Ball Wrapups – summaries will be provided for the Notre Dame players who were active in various summer leagues while another installment of the Pro Baseball Update will provide the latest stats and honors for the former ND players currently active on the next level

• Freshman Focus – und.com will provide final pre-Notre Dame bio. data on the newcomers to the Irish baseball program
