Irish Earn Qualify Two on Day 2 of East Regional

BLOOMINGTON, IN.  – On day two of the 2022 NCAA East Regional the Irish women competed for their spots at the 2022 NCAA Track and Field National Championship. The Irish had two automatic qualifiers in the women’s hammer throw and the 10,000 meter race.

Rachel Tanczos was the first automatic qualifier for the Irish when she took 10th place in the women’s hammer throw. She threw for a mark of 65.62m to send her to Eugene for the national meet. Tanczos also threw in the women’s shot put competition with a mark of 14.18m. 

Katilin Ryan then ran in the 800m race to represent the Irish, and finished with a tie of 2:08.69. Ryan just misses the qualifying time for the national meet. In the javelin throw, Gabrielle Diedtrich just missed out on qualifying with a throw of 50.04m taking 13th place.

In the 10000 meter run, Katie Rose Blachowicz earned the Irish the automatic qualifier with a time of 34:34.52. Maddy Denner also ran in the race and finished with a time of 35:11.34 just missing out on the qualifier spots.
