Irish Earn Four USFCA Collegiate Awards

SOUTH BEND, IND. – As announced by the United States Fencing Coaching Association, Head Coach Gia Kvaratskhelia, and two Irish have earned 2021-22 Collegiate Awards. 

Head Coach Kvaratskhelia was named both the men’s and women’s coach of the year. He has led the Irish to his fourth national title with Notre Dame in 2022, having previously led the Irish to the team crown in 2017, 2018, and 2021. 

Kaylin Hsieh earned women’s epee athlete of the year. Hsieh went 38-9 in dual meet competition in the 2022 season. She also took home the national championship title in epee at the 2022 National Championships. 

Amita Berthier was named the women’s foil athlete of the year after claiming NCAA individual runner up while going 31-8 in dual meet competition during the 2022 season. 

This is now the second coach of the year honor for Coach Kvaratskhelia in the 2022 season, and second fencer of the year honors for both Hsieh and Berthier after claiming ACC Fencer of the Year titles.
