Chris Walker rebounded on day two of action from the FAU Spring Break Championship, carding a second round 73 (+2) for the best Irish score of the day.

Irish Drop To Tie For Eighth Place After Second Round Action From FAU Spring Break Championship

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – The Notre Dame men’s golf team dropped into a tie for eighth place following second round action at the FAU Spring Break Championship at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla. after registering a 297 (+13) on the day. Senior Doug Fortner (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) sits in a tie for fifth after carding a second round 75, taking his overall score to 139 (-3) after 36 holes.

Fortner got off to a slow start on his opening nine holes of action, posting five pars to go along with four bogeys, good for a four-over par 39. He recovered on the back nine, recording a pair of birdies including a four on the par-five 18th hole to close out his round and take him out in 36 (E) on the back side.

Sophomore Chris Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), whose first round 78 was not counted to the team score, rebounded with the best Irish round of the day with a two-over par 73. He posted four birdies on the round, including a stretch of six holes that saw him in the red three times. His 73 is the second best round of his spring season, falling behind only his third round 71 at the Battle at the Beach.

Sophomore Max Scodro (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep (AZ)) remained consistent through the first two rounds of the tournament, posting his second straight three-over par 74. After completing the front nine at three-over par and without a birdie, Scodro posted an even par back nine with the help of two birdies to go along with five pars. He sits at 148 (+6) and in a tie for 35th place overall.

Senior Josh Sandman (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) carded a four-over par 75 in his second round of action, helped by ten pars and two birdies. He was able to take advantage of the par five seventh hole for the second consecutive day, posting a birdie four. After two rounds of action Sandman is in a tie for 46th place at 149 (+7).

Senior Carl Santos-Ocampo (Naples, Fla./Community School of Naples) posted his second straight 74 while competing as an individual entrant for the Irish. After recording four birdies in his first 18 holes, Santos-Ocampo was able to register three more in his second round of competition, including two in the final five holes of the front nine. He joins Scodro in a tie for 35th place after the day two.

Sophomore Tom Usher (Bradford, England/Guiseley School) posted four birdies on the way to carding a second round 75 (+4). He was able to play the four par three’s at even par for the day despite not recording a par, birdying hole six and 17 but bogeying eight and 14. His two-day 151 (+9) puts him in a tie with Walker at 58th.

Final round action is slated to get underway on Sun., March 28 at 7:30 a.m. (ET) with tee times based on the team standings (the leading teams will tee off last).
