Jan. 29, 2005

Box Score

Bowling Green, Ohio – Ryan Minnabarriet scored a pair of power-play goals and goaltender Jordan Sigalet stopped 29 of 30 Notre Dame shots to lead the Bowling Green Falcons to a 4-1 win over the Irish in front of 4,956 at the Bowling Green Ice Arena on Friday night.

The Falcons got three goals in the first 12:46 of the game to take a commanding 3-0 lead after the first period as Taylor Christie, Minnabarriet and Steve Brudzewski scored to chase starting goaltender David Brown.

Christie got the Bowling Green scoring blitz going at 8:33 of the opening period when he followed a shot by Brudzewski and flipped the rebound past Brown for the first goal of his collegiate career.

The Falcons would then score twice in a 1:04 span (and three in 4:13) as the lead would go to 3-0.

Minnabarriet picked up his first power-play goal of the night at 11:42 to make it 2-0. Brett Pilkington’s shot from the right wing circle was stopped by Brown but the rebound went right to Minnabarriet camped on the doorstep. The senior right wing shoveled the rebound home for his third goal of the season.

Just over a minute later, Brudzewski capitalized on an Irish turnover for his second point of the game. James Unger took control of a loose puck behind the net and centered it in front to Brudzewski who one-timed it behind Brown at 12:46 for his sixth of the season. The goal chased Brown in favor of Morgan Cey in the Irish goal.

The Irish would break through in the second period with a power-play goal of their own as Michael Bartlett snapped a 187:14 minute goal-scoring drought for Notre Dame when he beat Sigalet from the slot for his second goal of the year at 10:23 of the middle stanza.

Senior captain Cory McLean carried the puck deep into the Bowling Green zone, leaving it for Matt Amado in the left wing circle. Amado carried it towards the goal as Bartlett moved in from the right point. Bartlett took the feed from Amado between the hash marks and rifled a shot over Sigalet’s glove and under the crossbar for his second goal of the year.

Bartlett’s power-play goal ended a 0-for-29 skid for the Irish power play that dated back to Oct. 15 versus Ohio State.

Minnabarriet closed the scoring with his second power-play goal of the game at 5:28 of the final period for the 4-1 final score.

The goal was a repeat of his first-period tally with Alex Foster getting the shot from the slot that Cey stopped with his pads. Minnabarriet was camped in front and flipped the rebound over Cey as he tried to slide across the crease.

On the night, Notre Dame out shot Bowling Green by a 30-28 margin. Brown stopped five of the eight shots he faced and Cey made 19 saves in relief.

The Irish were 1-for-10 with the power play while the Falcons scored twice on 11 chances.

The loss, the seventh in a row for the Irish drops them to 5-17-5 on the season and 3-12-4 in CCHA play. Bowling Green is now 11-9-3 on the year and 8-7-2 in the conference.

The two teams will close out the regular-season series on Saturday night at the Joyce Center. Face off is set for 7:05 p.m.
