The first quarter opened with Yale taking the first goal. Kasey Choma followed up Ahern’s goal with another free position shot to give the Irish a 2-1 lead. Then three more immediate goals from Howe, Choma, and Jane McAvoy increased the Irish lead 5-1. The Bulldogs wouldn’t back down as they immediately responded with their second goal late in the quarter. In the final seconds of the first quarter, Choma would find the back of the net for a 6-2 lead.

The Irish kept the momentum going when Kelly Denes scored Notre Dame’s seventh goal. The lead only increased when the next four goals would come from the Irish with no response from the Bulldogs. Goals from Jackie Wolak and Howe increased the Irish lead 11-2. The Irish caused four turnovers just in the second quarter, two of which led to Notre Dame goals.

Coming out of halftime, Yale scored two goals to open the third quarter. The Irish quickly responded with two more goals of their own for a score of 13-7. Mary Kelly Doherty hit the back of the net in a free position attempt with six minutes remaining in the quarter for a 14-7 lead. With two minutes remaining in the quarter Howe would again score for the Irish to go into the fourth quarter a 15-8 lead.

The fourth quarter opened with an immediate goal from Ahern within thirty seconds of the quarter starting. Yale would respond twice several minutes later. Howe came right back for the Irish’s final goal to make the eventual final score 17-10.
