Irish Doubles Advance to Midwest Regional Final

EVANSTON, Ill. – Notre Dame has a chance to clinch its fourth straight Midwest Regional Doubles Championship as the Irish duo of sophomore Kristy Frilling and senior Kali Krisik advanced to the final match Sunday.

The 15th-ranked tandem of Frilling and Krisik cruised past Ohio State’s Kelsey Haviland and Cami Hubbs, 8-0, in the quarterfinals, before topping Northwestern’s Elena Chernyakova and Lauren Lui, 8-2, in their semifinal match.

In a match-up of the tournament’s top two seeds, Frilling and Krisik will take on DePaul’s No. 31 Selma Salkovic and Anna Redesci in the finals Monday at 10 a.m. (CT).

In singles action, 20th-ranked Frilling advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Northwestern’s Brittany Wowchuk, 6-3, 6-0, Sunday. Frilling will face Ohio State’s Kirsten Flower Monday afternoon.

Krisik saw her singles run come to an end with a 6-3, 6-1 loss at the hands of Northwestern’s top-ranked Maria Mosolova in the Round of 16.
