Irish Dominate At The Chowder Fest Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team concluded their final day of competition at the Chowder Fest Tournament at the Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass., compiling an impressive 32-7 record on the weekend and earning all three-tournament awards.

Senior Stephen Havens (Cincinnati, Ohio/Hill Christian) was named the Dale Junta ’58 Player of the Tournament and won the doubles championship along with teammate, Tyler Davis (Nashville, Tenn./Father Ryan). The duo was 3-0, while Havens had a perfect weekend combining a 3-0 record in singles play.

Freshman Greg Andrews (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) won the Corey Winn Freshman Player to Watch award after finishing 2-1 in singles and doubles action.

The Irish totaled a 23-4 record in singles wins over the weekend, battling Harvard, South Carolina and Minnesota. Five members concluded the tournament with an intact singles record. Billy Pecor (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral), David Anderson (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich), Tyler Davis (Nashville, Tenn./Father Ryan), Niall Fitzgerald (Wicklow, Ireland/Blackrock College), Michael Moore (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Havens concluded the three-day tournament 3-0.

The Irish totaled six of nine doubles victories. In addition to Havens and Davis, Keeton and Moore remained unbeaten in doubles play.
