Chicago, Ill. – The Notre Dame men’s tennis team wrapped up action at the Illinois/Olympia Fields Invitational on Sunday, securing six total victories in action at Chicago’s Olympia Fields Country Club.
Casey Watt (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) continued his strong play on the weekend, defeating Illinois’ Connor Roth in a dramatic three-set victory, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (9).Juniors Matt Johnson (Portage, MI/Portage Central H.S.) and Daniel Stahl (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman H.S.) also both won singles matches for the Irish. Johnson picked up a straight-set win over Tobias Reitz of Northwestern, 6-3, 6-4, while Stahl defeated Florida State’s Vahid Mirzadeh in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Freshman Michael Moore (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) scored the final singles victory of the day, defeating Hector Nieto of Michigan in straight-sets, 6-3, 7-5.The Irish also won two-of-three doubles matches on the day. Johnson and freshman Spencer Talmadge (Hillsborough, CA/Junipero Serra) defeated the Seminole paring of Clint Bowles and Connor Smith, 8-5, while Moore and freshman Blas Moros (Boca Raton, FL/Pine Crest School) defeated Northwestern’s Joshua Graves and Tobias Reitz, 8-6.

The Irish resume the fall portion of their schedule October 9-11 at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Mass.
