WILMINGTON, N.C. – The No. 24 University of Notre Dame women’s golf team finished fifth at the Landfall Tradition tournament carding an eight-over par 296 over 18 holes. Rounds two and three of the tournament were washed out by heavy rain. Oklahoma State was declared the champion with a four over par-292. No. 5 Duke finished in second and trailed the Cowgirls by a single stroke.

The tournament was held at the Country Club of Landfall’s par 72 Jack Nicklaus Course (6,138 yards).

The Irish moved as high as third place in the tournament standings on day two carding a 14-over par midway through the second round before play wall called due to inclement weather from Hurricane Sandy.

Texas Tech’s Kimberly Kaufman was the medalist with a five-under-par 67 in the first round and tied the tournament record for opening round score.

Freshman Lindsey Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was the top performer for the Irish firing a two-under par 70. Weaver tied UNC Wilmington’s Johanna Bjoerk for third place.

Sophomore Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii) fired an even-par 72 and finished in a four-way tie for 11th place.

Sophomore Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, III.) and freshman Talia Campbell (Dallas, Texas) each finished with a five-over par 77 and tied for 43rd.

Junior Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif.) finished tied for 86th after firing an 11-over par 83.

The Irish closed out the fall portion of the schedule this weekend and will resume play for the spring on Feb. 15, 2013 when they head to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the three-day Mash Up Tournament.
