AUSTIN, Texas — A pair of University of Notre Dame student-athletes competed Day 1 of competition in multi events on Wednesday at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas.

Carly Loeffel currently sits in eight place (of 18) through four events of the heptathlon, while Brent Swanberg is in 19th place (of 20) in the decathlon.

Loeffel had her highest finish in the shot put, taking seventh with a throw of 12.32 meters. She is currently 430 points off the lead in the heptathlon. Swanberg also finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 12.90 meters. The heptathlon will continue Thursday with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters, and the decathlon will wrap up with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters.

The Irish will be out in full force tomorrow as the sprints and relays get underway in Austin, and will also begin competition at the Bobcat Invitational in nearby San Marcos, Texas. Both meets will continue through Saturday. The remainder of the Texas Relays will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network, with the links above.
