Irish Complete Day One At Indiana Relays; Post Three Top-Three Finishes

DAY ONE RESULTS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field squads posted three top-three finishes on day one at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind. Day two begins at 10:20 a.m. with the women’s 200m dash.

Posting top-three finishes were Anthony Thomas (shot put), Jeff MacMillan (3,000m) and Mitchell Lorenz (600m).

Advancing to the semifinals of the 60m dash and 60m hurdles were six student-athletes. In the women’s 60m dash, Aijah Urssery advanced, while Nevada Sorenson and Kaila Barber advanced in the women’s 60m hurdles. In the men’s 60m hurdles, sophomore Jarrod Buchanon qualified, while the Atkinson brothers, George and Josh, from the Irish football team qualified for the 60m dash. All four events will hold semifinal heats in the morning.

Event-by-Event Results (Top Eight Finishers Only Or Qualifiers For Saturday Events)

WOMEN’S LONG JUMP
Jessie Christian took fifth in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.51m (18-01.00 ft.)

MEN’S WEIGHT THROW
Junior Anthony Thomas took third in the weight throw with a toss of 17.40m (57-01.00 ft.), while teammate Jordan Stumph finished seventh with a toss of 17.03m (55-10.50 ft.).

WOMEN’S 60m HURDLES
Junior Nevada Sorenson (8.71) and freshman Kaila Barber (8.71) qualified sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 60m hurdles. The semifinals will be around 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, with the finals slated for 12:35 p.m.

MEN’S 60m HURDLES
Sophomore Jarrod Buchanon was the lone Irish 60m hurdler to qualify, placing sixth in 8.19. The semis of the men’s 60m hurdles will be at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, with the finals set for 12:40 p.m.

WOMEN’S 60m
Aijah Urssery was the lone Irish sprinter to qualify in the 60m dash, taking 15th in 7.81. The semis are scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, while the finals will be at 12:45 p.m.

MEN’S 60m
Fresh onto the squad from the football team, George Atkinson III and his brother Josh Atkinson both qualified for the semifinals of the 60m dash. Atkinson III took seventh in 6.90, while brother, Josh, finished 16th in 6.98. The semis of the 60m dash will take place at 11:15 a.m., with the finals slated for 12:50 p.m.

MEN’S POLE VAULT
Freshman David Schipper took eighth in the pole vault, with a vault of 4.60m (15-01.00 ft.).

WOMEN’S 3,000m
Sophomore Meg Ryan took fourth in the 3,000m with a time of 9:58.83.

WOMEN’S WEIGHT THROW
Madeline Casanova was the top finisher for the Irish in the weight throw, tossing 16.86m (55-03.75 ft.) to take eighth.

MEN’S 3,000m
Junior Jeff MacMillan earned a runner-up finish in the 3,000m, finishing in 8:33.04.

WOMEN’S 200m
Urssery finished fourth in the 200m in 24.93.

MEN’S 200m
Freshman Chris Giesting took fourth in the 200m in 21.94.

MEN’S TRIPLE JUMP
Sophomore Logan Renwick placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.46m (47-05.25 ft.).

MEN’S 600m
Notre Dame had a pair of top-eight finishers in Zac Suriano (1:22.28) and Eddy Gibbons (1:22.52), who placed seventh and eighth, respectively.

WOMEN’S MILE
Sophomore McKinzie Schulz finished seventh in the mile run with a time of 4:55.79.

MEN’S 600m Invitational
In the elite race, Mitchell Lorenz finished third in 1:20.59.

MEN’S 200m Invitational
In the 200m elite race, sophomore Patrick Feeney placed fifth in 21.94.

MEN’S 3,000m Invitational
In the men’s 3,000m elite race, Jake Kildoo finished fifth in 8:26.95, while Joe Miller took eighth in 8:31.39.

WOMEN’S 3,000m Invitational
Sophomore Alexa Aragon took fourth in the elite race in a time of 9:34.15.
