Irish Compete In First Day Of Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational

The University of Notre Dame women’s rowing team began the 2021 season with a full day of competition at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on Saturday, March 13. 

The competition was the first for the Irish in over 22 months. The entire 2020 season was cancelled before it even began due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant the last team competition for the Irish was the ACC Championships in May of 2019. 

The Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational field is full of heavy competition, as well. During the two-day event the Irish – who received votes in the Pocock CRCA Preseason Top 25 – will race against No. 3 Michigan, No. 7 Virginia, No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 20 SMU and RV Tennessee. 

In the morning session on Saturday, the 3V4+ and 3V8+ earned victories in their first races of the season, while the other four boats in the competition finished third in their respective runs to Tennessee and SMU in the morning, then Michigan and Virginia in the afternoon.
