ALLENDALE, Mich. – With most of the team prepping for the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, five Notre Dame student athletes got in one final meet as they participated in the GVSU Big Meet held at Grand Valley State’s Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Mich., on Friday night.

Highlighting the meet was a fourth place finish in the 200m dash by freshman George Atkinson III , while fellow Irish football teammate Bennett Jackson took sixth in the 60m hurdles.

Atkinson III qualified third in the 60m dash (6.85) while brother Josh Atkinson qualified 13th (7.03). Atkinson III was the top collegiate qualifier in the prelims. In the finals Atkinson III placed 10th (6.99).

Atkinson III came back a couple of hours later and took fourth in the 200m dash (22.01).

Jackson qualified 11th for the 60m hurdles finals (8.38) and turned in a sixth-place showing in the finals (8.23).

Freshman Jade Barber qualified 17th for the finals of the 60m hurdles (9.14) and then placed 10th in the finals (8.87).

The Irish are in their final preparations for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships that will be held at the Armory in New York City next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 18-19).
