KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team wrapped up Day One of competition at the Western Michigan Super Challenge at the West Hills Athletic Club.
In the round robin singles format, four Irish players recorded wins. Julie Vrabel climbed back to defeat Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Cincinnati), 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) and Katherine White dumped Marquette’s Vanessa Foltinger, 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Jane Fennelly cruised past WMU’s Ella Perinovic, 6-2, 6-2, and Darby Mountford bested Cincinnati’s Samantha Perry, 6-4, 6-2.
In the doubles compass draw, both the tandems of Jane Fennelly and Katherine White, and Mary Closs and Brooke Broda won both first and second round matches, and will square off against each other on Saturday.
