Irish Compete At Riviera/ITA All-American Championship

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. – Four members of the Irish women’s tennis squad competed on the first day of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship, compiling a 2-2 record on Tuesday.

Senior Kelcy Tefft defeated Pepperdine’s Animika Bhargava, 6-4, 6-2,in the first round of qualifying singles, but dropped her second-round match to Tennessee’s Caitlin Whorisky, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Tefft teamed up with junior Kali Krisik to defeat Georgia’s Yvette Hyndman and Chelsea Gullickson, 8-3 in the doubles draw first round.

Juniors Cosmina Ciobanu and Colleen Rielley lost their first-round match to North Carolina’s Sanaz Marand and Katrina Tsang, 8-2.

Tefft and Krisik will play their second-round doubles match against William and Mary’s Ragini Acharya and Katarina Zoricic Wednesday morning with the final matches being played Wednesday afternoon.

Four doubles teams will advance to the main draw beginning Thursday.
