Irish Collect Five First Place Finishes at Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE, TN. – The Notre Dame track and field team traveled to the Louisville Invitational on Friday April 15 and Saturday April 16. 

Sophie Novak and Anna Fischer finished first and second, respectively, in the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase. Novak crossed the finish line at 11:02.99 and Fischer finished at 11:08.65. Teammate Olivia Niziolek ran in the women’s 1500 meter run and finished with a time of 4:41.73. Eve Balseiro finished in fourth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.15. 

In the women’s 100 meter dash, Shae Douglas and Tyrah Taylor represented the Irish. Douglas finished with a time of 12.37 and Taylor finished with a time of 12.64. In the 800 meter run, Erin Sullivan, Molly Grant, Catherine Coffey, and Sarah Mirkin ran for times of 2:07.60, 2:15.49, 2:20.41, and 2:25.19 respectively.

The women’s 400 meter hurdles, had Caroline Isemann run for a time of 1:06.55 and take third place. Douglas and Taylor represented the Irish together again in the women’s 200 meter dash.  Douglas finished at 25.32 and Taylor finished at 26.07. Emily Eberhart ran in the 3000 meter run and finished in third place with a time of 10:22.24.

Olivia Fabry competed in the pole vault where she hit her final mark of 3.66m. Rachel Tanczos took third place in the women’s shot put where she threw for 15.95m. Alesis Juntunen, Emma Albano and Ava Butterbaugh also threw in the shot put where they hit marks of 13.72m, 13.54m, and 12.78m, respectively. 

Kendall Burgess took fourth in the women’s long jump event. She hit a mark of 5.75m. In the women’s hammer throw Tanczos took first place with a throw of 58.83m. Albano threw for a mark of 50.17m, and Maddy Jones also threw for 45.46m. 

The women’s high jump had Madison Schmidt and Sarah Flight, hit marks of 1.75m and 1.65m, respectively. Tanczos took home first place in the discus throw when she threw for 53.67m. Teammate Butterbaugh took sixth place with a mark of 42.53m. Siobhan Loughney competed in the javelin throw and took second place with a throw of 35.67m.

On the men’s side, Theo Phipps ran in the 110 meter hurdles. He crossed the finish line at 14.80. In the 400 meter dash Theo Chambers took second place when he ran for a time of 47.53. Teammate John Oleksak, Luis Cossio, Matthew Cornelius, and Luke Phillips also ran in the 400 meter dash for a time of 49.43, 49.75, 51.00, and 61.68, respectively.

Paul Baynes represented Notre Dame in the men’s 100 meter dash. He took seventh place with a time of 11.16. Baynes also ran in the 200 meter dash crossing the finish line at 22.18. In the men’s 800 meter run Thomas Walters crossed the finish line in seventh place at 1:55.53. The men’s 400 meter dash had the Irish take first place as Max Frye crossed the finish line at 51.43.

The men’s 4×400 meter relay team took second place. Luis Cossio, Matthew Cornelius, Like Phillips, and John Oleksak crossed the finish line at 3:18.11. John Stefan, Michael Shoaf, William Loewen, and Henry Boudreau all competed in the men’s shot put. Stefan took second with a mark of 18.29m, Shoaf took third at 18.28m, Loewen took sixth at 16.06m, and Bourdreau took seventh at 15.23m.

The men’s discus throw had Shoaf take third place with a mark of 50.49m. Bourdreau threw for 45.01m. Austin Parsons took first place in the men’s javelin throw with a mark of 65.92m. Blake Kusky took fourth place in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 55.67m. Shoaf and Stefan also threw for marks of 51.67m and 51.56m.
