Irish Close Tournament Schedule At Western Michigan Super Challenge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team completed its fall slate Sunday on day three of the Western Michigan University Super Challenge at the West Hills Athletic Club.

No. 106 Jennifer Kellner (Smithtown, N.Y.) battled DePaul’s Matea Cutura to a third and deciding set in the consolation match of the first singles flight before ultimately falling 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (1-0).

Freshman Quinn Gleason (Mendon, N.Y.) fell in the final match of the second singles flight against DePaul’s Jasmin Kling, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). Gleason and doubles partner Katherine White (Columbus, Ga.) narrowly missed out on the doubles championship in the No. 2 doubles bracket, dropping a heartbreaking match to Carolyn Chupa and Katie Klyczek (Indiana) 8-6 in their last outing of the fall season.

Freshman Darby Mountford (Granger, Ind.) earned a third-place finish in her first career collegiate tournament, blanking Penn State’s Lisa Petruzillo 6-0, 6-0 in the consolation match of the seventh singles draw.

In a match outside of the scheduled draws, sophomore Molly O’Koniewski (Hilton Head, S.C.) capped her autumn campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Marquette’s Laia Hernandez Soler.

The Fighting Irish are scheduled to open the 2013 dual season Jan. 18 against Bowling Green inside the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
