The University of Notre Dame track and field program concluded with several strong performances on the final day of the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Ten student-athletes placed in the top-10 in their events for the Irish on the second day, giving the program a total of 21 top-10 finishes, including four first place finishes for the weekend between the two meets.
On the track, the women’s hurdlers turned in another stellar performance for the Irish. Seniors Summer Thorpe and Naya Sharp each won their heats in the 60m hurdles qualifying round to advance to the finals in Nashville. Sharp then took center stage in the finals and won the event with a PR of 8.34, the sixth-fastest time in the ACC this season.
In the field events, junior McKenna Caskey stood out for the Irish, as she set a PR with a 3.97m pole vault to win the event at the Music City Challenge. Freshman Olivia Fabry placed third in the event with a mark of 3.76m, a PR of her own.
Next up, the Irish will host the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center on Saturday, Feb. 22.
