Irish Close Out Louisville Invitational With Eight Event Wins

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Irish wrapped up the second and final day of the Louisville Invitational by posting eight first place finishes on Saturday.

The men’s throwers tallied their second win of the weekend with John Stefan taking first in the event with a mark of 17.79m.

Notre Dame picked up two other field event wins on the day, as John Keenan won the javelin with a throw of 60.92m. In the pole vault, the ACC indoor champion, Colton Crum, recorded his first victory of the outdoor season by clearing 5.12m.

On the women’s side of field events, Madison Schmidt won the high jump, clearing 1.76m to take the crown.

Erin Sullivan had a notable performance on the track for the Irish, crossing the line in 2:11.16 in the 800m race to place first. The Irish also managed to take the top two spots in the 3,000m race, as Meghan Scott crossed first in 9:39.75 followed by teammate Erin Strzelecki in 9:40.11.

Andrew Delvecchio turned in a winning performance in the 1,500m race, crossing the line in 3:56.99 to take the top spot. The other Irish victory came in the men’s 400m hurdles, as Osy Ekwueme won with a time of 58.20.

The Irish split squads next weekend, competing in both the Hurricane Alumni Invite in Miami and the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Mississippi. Both are two-day meets that begin on Friday, April 9.
