LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team will take a three-shot lead into Tuesday’s third and final round of the 2007 BIG EAST Championship at the par 72, 6,067-yard Oxmoor Country Club. The Fighting Irish carded 14-over par 302 on Monday and carry a 594 total (+18) to lead the seven-team field. Notre Dame freshman Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) is just two shots off the lead with a one-over par 145 total.
Louisville, the host school for the event, shaved three shots off of Notre Dame’s first-round lead by posting the day’s top round with a 299 (+11). The Cardinals are in second place with a 597 total, while South Florida is a distant third with a score of 616. Cindy Lacrosse from Louisville maintained her two-shot lead on the individual leader board after registering a one-over par 73 during the second round. Her teammate Adrienne White, the defending BIG EAST champion, is tied with Brophy for second among the field of 34 golfers. White carded the day’s top round with an even-par 72.
Brophy recorded Notre Dame’s top score on Monday with a one-over par 73. She posted a team-high five birdies on the day, including four on the back nine.
Notre Dame senior co-captain Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) enters the final 18 holes of play in sixth place after firing a 74 during the second round to go along with her first-round score of 73 for a three-over par 147 total. Freshman Julie Kim (Bayside, N.Y./Bayside) is in seventh place with a six-over par 150 (72-78) for the Irish.
Sophomore Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Collegiate Parkside Institute) is the third Fighting Irish golfer currently in the top 10. She has shot back-to-back 77s during the first two days of the tournament to reside in a two-way tie for ninth. Fighting Irish freshman Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) is tied for 13th with a 157 (75-82) total entering the third round.
Tuesday’s third and final round of the 2007 BIG EAST Women’s Golf Championship will get underway with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. (ET). The Fighting Irish tee times are from 9:40-10:20.
