Irish Boast Strong Day At Wildcat Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. – The first day of fall competition has completed for the University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team, with the Irish boasting an impressive day of results at the Wildcat Invitational at Northwestern University.

The Irish went 5-3 on the day in singles, with a pair of Notre Dame freshmen earning their first collegiate singles wins. Rookie Cameron Corse defeated Michigan’s Bella Lorenzini in the Black Flight, while classmate Ally Bojczuk downed Illinois-Chicago’s Bianca Zuzu in the Orange Flight. Senior Allison Miller earned a three-set win over Florida State’s Petra Hule in the Blue Flight; junior Rachel Chong defeated Montana’s Bianca Bostrom in the Yellow Flight; and sophomore Zoe Spence upended Pittsburgh’s Luisa Varon in three sets in the Gray Flight.

In doubles. Corse and Spence earned a win in the consolation bracket of the Maroon Flight, defeating DePauls Aspasia Avgeri and Alina Kuzmenkova. Bojczuk and Chong followed suit in the Garnet Flight, defeating Montana’s Bostrom and Panic on the consolation side.

Competition will pick back up beginning at 11 a.m. ET Saturday.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs, in addition to overseeing production of the football Gameday Magazine. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University and earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2013.
