SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Notre Dame junior right-handed hurler David Phelps tossed 7.0 strong innings and the Irish offense pounded out 12 hits, including three triples and an inside-the-park home run, in a 13-1 rout of Buffalo in college baseball action from the Irish Classic at Wolff Stadium. Notre Dame evens its record at 6-6, while the Bulls drop to 4-10.

Phelps (Hazelwood, MO) limited Buffalo to just one earned run on four hits and improved to 2-2 on the season. The right-handed hurler struckout four and walked just one. Phelps allowed only one base-runner into scoring position the entire afternoon. He now has eight career starts in which he has gone at least 7.0 innings and surrendered an earned run or less. He dropped his season earned-run average to 4.01.

Phelps was aided by an Irish offensive attack that plated two runs in the first, three in the second, six in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Freshman third baseman Greg Sherry (Mendam, N.J.) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while sophomore designated hitter David Mills (Battlecreek, MI), sophomore center fielder A.J. Pollock (Hebron, CT) and junior first baseman Casey Martin (Chesterton, IN) each had multi-hit games.

Mills, making his first start and appearance in the Irish lineup, went 2-for-2 with a triple, sacrifice fly, two runs scored and two RBI. Pollock went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Martin went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and RBI triple.

Senior catcher Sean Gaston (Brownsburg, IN) went 1-for-3 with a three-run triple and run scored.

Sophomore Steven Mazur (Round Rock, TX) and freshman Cole Johnson (Hudson, OH) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief. Both faced the minimum and Johnson struckout the side.

Notre Dame returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a game against Southern Illinois. First-pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET. Senior left-handed pitcher Wade Korpi (Lake Worth, FL) will take the mound for the Irish. The game can heard live on ESPN Radio 1490 AM and UND.com.
