Irish Begin Slate Of Action From The NCAA Outdoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Notre Dame track and field team got underway at the NCAA Outdoor Championships from John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark. on Wednesday, June 10. Five Notre Dame athletes competed in their respective qualifying rounds on the day – Justin Schneider (decathlon), Anna Weber (hammer), Matt Schipper (men’s pole vault), Mary Saxer (women’s pole vault) and Joanna Schwartz (400 meters).

Jaclyn Espinoza (discus) and Patrick Smyth (10,000 meters) will begin their competition at the Championships on Thursday, along with Schneider concluding the decathlon in the afternoon.

NCAA Championships Results:

Decathlon: Justin Schneider has completed five events with the remaining five taking place on Thursday.

Women’s Hammer Throw: Anna Weber finishing in 15th place of the preliminaries, recording a mark of 56.72 (186-01).

Men’s Pole Vault: Matt Schipper posted a mark of 5.10m (16-08.75) to finish in a tie for 19th place in his prelim.

Women’s Pole Vault: Mary Saxer marked at 4.10m (13-05.25) to earn a tie for first place and a spot in the women’s final.

Women’s 400 Meters: Janna Schultz finished in 26th place, posting a time of 55.08 in her heat.
