NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A seventh-inning RBI single for Caitlyn Brooks was the deciding run for the University of Notre Dame softball team in a 6-5 win over Western Michigan on Wednesday night at Melissa Cook Stadium.

How It Happened

Notre Dame (27-15) erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first inning with two runs against the Western Michigan (16-24) defense. RBI singles for Morgan Reed and Melissa Rochford gave the Irish a 2-1 advantage.

Notre Dame broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third inning off the bat of Rochford. Rochford’s third home run of the season vaulted the Irish in front 5-2.

Western Michigan re-tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning and a two-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh inning to square the contest at 5-5.

Facing a full-count with two outs and the bases full in the bottom of the seventh, Brooks laced a pitch to the gap in right center to score Alexis Bazos for the winning Notre Dame run.
