Bright House Field first hosted the conference tournament in 2006 and has been the league's championship destination for five of the last six years.

Irish Baseball Team Schedule Adjustments For 2006 Season

Feb. 9, 2006

There have been several minor changes to the Notre Dame 2006 baseball schedule, since its initial release on Dec. 10. Two home games have shifted their start times (April 22 vs. Rutgers at 3:05; April 25 vs. Purdue at 7:05) while the April 13 doubleheader vs. St. John’s will be telecast live by CSTV (other TV broadcasts are TBA). The BIG EAST also has announced that the eight-team conference tournament will be held in the new venue of Bright House Networks Field (Clearwater, Fla.), the Philadelphia Phillies spring-training site and home field for their single-A affiliate.

Here are complete updated schedule notes for the 2006 Notre Dame baseball season:

• The eight-team BIG EAST Championship will be held May 23-27 in Clearwater, Fla., at Bright House Networks Field (spring training site of the Philadelphia Phillies and home field of their single-A affiliate, the Clearwater Threshers). The BIG EAST increased its baseball membership to 12 teams in 2006 with the addition of the University of Cincinnati, University of Louisville and University of South Florida. The league’s top eight teams based on regular-season finish in the conference standings will qualify for the double-elimination event. The tournament champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The format will mirror the College World Series, with two four-team, double-elimination brackets (with seeds 2-3-6-7 in one and seeds 1-4-5-8 in the other). See the PDF attached below for the complete 2006 BIG EAST tournament schedule. Bright House Networks Field, which opened its doors in 2004, is a fan-friendly ballpark with a capacity of 8,500. The ballpark distinguishes itself with a 360-degree main concourse, grass berm seating and a tiki-hut pavilion in left field. The stadium also includes group picnic areas, a children’s play area and a state-of-the-art video scoreboard.
