The Irish baseball team will look to return to the NCAA Tournament after a one-year absence as Mik Aoki leads the program for his seventh season. Notre Dame returns 16 Monogram winners, including 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Matt Vierling and a trio of junior pitchers named to the 2017 edition of D1Baseball’s Top 100 College Prospects in Peter Solomon, Brandon Bielak and Brad Bass.

Aoki’s squad welcomes a strong list of teams to the first-base dugout of Frank Eck Stadium this spring. ACC play is bookended by a pair of NCAA Super Regional teams from a season ago in Florida State (March 24-26) and Louisville (May 5-7). NC State (March 31-April 2), Georgia Tech (April 7-9) and Duke (April 28-30) also visit South Bend in league play, while the non-conference schedule is highlighted by the home opener against Northern Illinois (March 21), Michigan State (April 11), Valparaiso (April 25) and Austin Peay (May 12-14).

Notre Dame softball made its 18th consecutive appearance, and earned its 21st overall bid in 28 seasons of varsity competition, in the NCAA Championship in 2016, reaching its 10th ever regional final and finishing the season with a 43-13 record at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional. The Irish qualified for the NCAA postseason after a runner-up result at the 2016 ACC Championship tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina, against eventual Women’s College World Series qualifier Florida State.

A total of 13 Monogram winners are expected to return to the diamond for Irish softball in 2017, including 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) third team All-American Karley Wester; NFCA all-region first team selections Caitlyn Brooks, Melissa Rochford and Ali Wester; NFCA all-region second team choice Morgan Reed; NFCA all-region third team representative Bailey Bigler; and 2016 ACC Academic Team selections Rachel Nasland and Kimmy Sullivan.
