NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to play host to the second of four home meet this season on Saturday inside of the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind. The contest welcomes Michigan State, DePaul and Western Michigan’s women’s team for the Notre Dame Invitational. The action begins at 10:00 a.m. (ET) with the long jump, while the running events commence at noon (ET).
The Irish are already through their first two meets of the season, many student-athletes have already qualified for the BIG EAST Championships, which is set for Feb. 19-20 at the University of Akron Athletics Field House. Among the qualifiers, freshman McKinzie Schulz (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) in the 1,000 meters, junior Mason Bashaw (Houston, Texas/Kincaid) in the weight throw and junior Kevin Schipper (Leo, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) in the pole vault.
Additionally, senior Justin Schneider (Atlanta, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian) was recently named the BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week after breaking his school record in the heptathlon at the Bob Eubanks Open last weekend. Schneider totaled 5,497 points, making his the top-ranked (tfrrs.org) multi-events student-athlete in the country.
