Irish Announce Virtual Meet vs. West Virginia

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The University of Notre Dame Swim & Dive team will participate in a virtual meet with West Virginia November 6-7.

The meet will replace the cancelled meets originally scheduled for this weekend for both teams, with the Irish originally set to face Pittsburgh, and West Virginia scheduled to compete with Minnesota. Both meets were cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols.

Both teams will swim the same events at their home facilities. At the end of each session, the times will be combined to produce standings, and a meet winner will be declared after the second session.

“Naturally, both teams were disappointed that our head-to-head meets with Pittsburgh and Minnesota were cancelled, but this is a great solution,” Notre Dame head swim coach Mike Litzinger said. “Coach Vic Riggs from West Virginia and I connected over our similar situations, we came up with a creative solution and this is the result. I am thrilled for our athletes who have been working so hard this fall, and they are excited to show what they can do. It will be great to swim and dive against the Mountaineers.”

The first session will begin Friday at 5 p.m. ET, and the second session will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. ET. Times can be viewed after each session ends at und.com/swimmingstats.
