Five Things To Know

  • The Notre Dame baseball team receives a visit from Chicago State on Tuesday, March 28. First pitch at Frank Eck Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m. It’s Bingo Tuesday, as fans will have the opportunity to receive a baseball bingo card on the way into the stadium, while supplies last. The team will also celebrate National Something on a Stick Day, with the first 25 fans receiving a free corndog. If you can’t make it to the game, watch live on ACC Network Extra or listen on WatchND.
  • Notre Dame and Chicago State are meeting for the 32nd time, with the Irish having won all but one contest. Notre Dame has won 14 straight since the Cougars’ lone win in 1998 (6-4 at Frank Eck Stadium). Last season, the Irish scored early en route to a 6-3 victory, led by a 2-for-3 outing from Kyle Fiala.
  • Scott Tully is slated to make the start for the Irish, continuing an impressive return from Tommy John surgery less than a year ago. Tully has earned two consecutive wins over Davidson and Northern Illinois. At Davidson two weeks ago, he allowed one hit in four shutout innings, while against the Huskies in last week’s home opener, he conceded one earned run in 3.2 innings while striking out five.
  • As several former Irish players are wrapping up spring training, Fighting Irish Media’s John Heisler caught up with another former Notre Dame baseball player still making his living in the game. Matt Nussbaum serves as a lawyer for the Major League Baseball Players Association, representing the players on everything from salary arbitration to rules of the game. Read the story here.
  • After the Chicago State meeting, the Irish prepare for a visit from NC State. The Wolfpack visit for a three-game set on Friday (6:05 p.m), Saturday (4:05 p.m) and Sunday (1:05 p.m.). Friday is Kids’ Day, with all kids receiving free admission. It’s also Leprechaun Legion & Student Appreciation Night, with students eligible for a series of $100 gift card giveaways and a student kickball game on the field following the contest.
