EUGENE, Oregon – The USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships concluded on Sunday with six former University of Notre Dame student-athletes competing at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. One former Irish standout took home gold, while another two advanced to the semifinals in their respective events.

Molly Huddle (’07) snared the championship in the 10,000 meters, beating out American record-holder and three-time champion Shalane Flanagan in a time of 31:39.20. Huddle owns the America record in the 5,000 meters and owns two national championships in that event, but captured her first crown at the longer distance. Her win guaranteed Huddle a spot on the U.S. team for the world championships in Beijing.

Jade Barber (’15) advanced to the semifinal round of the 100-meter hurdles after placing fourth (12.82) in her heat of the preliminary to automatically qualify. Barber finished sixth 13.04) in her semifinal heat, however, and did not move on.

Patrick Feeney (’14) was also a semifinalist in the 400 meters, placing third (45.55) in the preliminary heat. Like Barber, Feeney also finished sixth (45.80) in the semifinal. Chris Giesting (’15) also competed in the 400 meters, but finished sixth (46.37) in his preliminary heat and did not advance any farther.

Rebecca Tracy (’13) competed in the 1,500 meters for Oiselle, finishing sixth in her preliminary race with a time of 4:20.61. Mary Saxer (’09) did not record a height in the pole vault.
