NOTRE DAME, Ind. –  The Notre Dame women’s soccer team (14-5-1) made sure its last go inside Alumni Stadium was quite the show, cruising past SIUE for the 4-0 victory. The cold weather and wintery mix, nor the Cougars defense, didn’t slow the Irish, who outshot its opposition 30-3.

Freshman Korbin Albert was the woman of the match, scoring two goals while tacking on an assist as well. Albert now has 11 goals on the season and seven in the last nine games.

Bri Martinez also got in on the scoring action, registering her second on the season. Lastly, it was none other than Sammi Fisher who got the final goal of the game, collecting lucky No. 13 on the year.

How It Happened

It didn’t take long for Albert to earn her first career postseason goal, putting the Irish on the board in just the fourth minute. Albert and Fisher each fired off close-range shots that were deflected, and Albert’s second attempt found the back of the net.

Goal No. 2 occurred in the 36th minute off a corner kick. After an Eva Gaetino header on frame and an Olivia Wingate shot, Bri Martinez was there to polish off the goal within the six-yard box.

Then just six minutes later, Notre Dame found its third goal, coming from the foot of Albert yet again. Hulda Osk Jonsdottir earned her first collegiate assist after working the ball deep down the left side and finding an open Albert just inside the penalty marker.

The fourth and final goal came in the 59th minute. A three-on-three attack was executed to perfection as Albert connected on a through ball to Fisher who tapped it past the goalie.

Up Next

The Irish will make the trek to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the NCAA second and third rounds. Up first, will be Purdue, whom Notre Dame has already faced this season. If victorious yet again, the Irish would play the winner between Arkansas and Virginia Tech.
