Irish Add Vanderglas to Baseball Staff

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Head coach Link Jarrett is excited to announce Brad Vanderglas as the program’s new  assistant coach for the upcoming 2022 season. Vanderglas replaces Scott Wingo, as he took a position at his alma mater at South Carolina.

“Brad comes from a fantastic Indiana State program with a culture rich with winning baseball,” said Jarrett. “Mitch Hannahs runs a first class operation and has helped guide their teams into NCAA postseason play. Brad’s attention to detail on the field with instruction, opponent scouting reports, and integration of technology will be awesome for our team. His overall approach to the development of our clinics and camps will be an asset to the regional community and Notre Dame Baseball.”

Vanderglas comes to the Irish after spending the previous five seasons at Indiana State. During his time with the Sycamores, he worked primarily with outfielders and catchers while organizing camps, creating practice schedules and scouting opponents. He also coordinated travel that included hotels, buses and meals.

“Brad has been a great asset to our program at Indiana State,” said Indiana State head coach Mitch Hannahs. “He was instrumental in our 2019 and 2021 NCAA regional appearances. Notre Dame has hired one of the bright young coaching stars in our profession.”

Vanderglas played a key role in the Sycamores’ regional appearances in 2021 and in 2019. This past season, Indiana State earned the No. 3 seed in the Nashville Regional after making it to the Missouri Valley Championship Game. The Sycamores won one game in Nashville before getting eliminated by the No. 2 seed Georgia Tech.

In the 2019 campaign, the Sycamores finished the season 43-18, including a 15-2 mark at home and claimed the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship. ISU won two games in the Nashville Regional, hosted by the No. 2 overall seed and eventual National Champion Vanderbilt.

“Brad will coach our Notre Dame outfielders, help with the infield group, and will assist with all phases of our team/individual offense,” said Jarrett. “Chuck (Ristano) and Rich (Wallace) do such a great job in compiling and presenting our scouting reports, Brad will add to this effort. His recruiting experience will undoubtedly help our national approach. We are excited to have Brad in our organization.”

Prior to his time in Terre Haute, Vanderglas spent three years at Lincoln Trail College in Illinois as Associate Head Coach and the Team’s Recruiting Coordinator.

At Lincoln Trail, Vanderglas picked up commitments from several high-profile student-athletes including Jordan Brewer who went on to earn 2019 Big-10 Player of the Year honors and was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft. Raul Hernandez who was the GRAC Player of the Year in 2017 as well as Eli Boggess who finished second in Division I in batting average in 2017 at Morehead State.

Prior to coaching, Vanderglas played four seasons at Northern Kentucky. He made 148 starts for the Norse over his career and graduated in 2013.
