Irish Add Graduate Lexi Orozco for 2023 Season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. –  The University of Notre Dame head softball coach Deanna Gumpf announced the signing of graduate student Lexi Orozco for the 2022-23 academic year. Orozco was a four-year letterwinner at Utah State as the Aggies primary shortstop.

Orozco finished the 2022 season as an NFCA Division I third team All-Region selection for her performance this past season. Orozco finished the year hitting .354 with 12 home runs and earned 46 RBI. She was the lone hitter in the Aggie lineup to hit over .300 on the season, and had the 12th-best average in the Mountain West Conference. The San Marcos, California-native hit a team-best 13 doubles and led her team with a .687 slugging percentage. She was also tied for the team lead with 36 walks on the season, earning a .471 on-base percentage.

In the field, Orozco has played shortstop for the Aggies for the past two seasons. she’s earned a .939 fielding percentage over the last two years. She’s earned a .415 on-base percentage to go with a .319 career batting average. She holds USU records in career RBI (138) and slugging percentage (.631) and tied the record for career homers (39). She ranks in the top 10 in several categories in the Aggie record book, including career walks, total bases, runs scored and doubles.
