Irish Add Duo to New Class

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame head men’s tennis head coach Ryan Sachire has announced two signings, Jameson Corsillo and Daniel Schmelka, who will join the Fighting Irish ahead of the 2021-22 season.

“We are thrilled to add Jamie and Daniel to the Notre Dame Tennis family,” Sachire said. “Both of these young men have been ranked in the top 20 in the nation for much of their junior careers and will bring a strong pedigree of on-court success to our program.”

Corsillo, from Boca Raton, Florida, is set to graduate from Pine Crest School and join the Irish for the 2021-22 season. Corsillo, the No. 52 player in the country, took home titles from the Bobby Curtis Florida State Championship B16, the ITF J4 Plantation, and the ITF J4 Trinidad tournaments. Corsillo made history as the youngest boy to receive a scholarship from the John McEnroe Tennis Academy. The Sun Sentinel also named him Player of the Year from Broward County.

Schmelka, from Hinsdale, Illinois, will graduate from Hinsdale Central High School before heading to South Bend. The No. 42 player in the country earned an IHSA Illinois State Singles championship title in 2019. “At the start of the season I was thinking about it,” Schmelka said of his title aspirations. “I wanted to be a state champion. That was my goal.”

“Each has demonstrated the ability to balance their work on the court with strong performance in the classroom as well,” Sachire said. “I am excited about the impact that Jamie and Daniel can make at Notre Dame.”

“Danny and Jamie are two talented players,” assistant coach Greg Andrews said, “that are ready to put in the hard work necessary to be successful at the collegiate level. Both of them bring great athleticism and competitiveness that we are excited to add to our program. We feel that they embody the grit that we pride ourselves on at Notre Dame Tennis and we cannot wait to get started with them.”

The duo is set to join a talented Notre Dame team for the 2021-22 season.
