Irish #2 Seed at ITA Kickoff Kentucky Regional

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team travels south to Lexington, Kentucky to play ITA Kickoff this weekend. They will be taking on Washington, the #3 seed in the regional, at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 27th for the opening round of play. In the other match, host school Kentucky will line up against Liberty. The winners of both matches will square off on Saturday in the final round with the team ending the weekend 2-0 securing a bid to the ITA National Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Illinois later on in February.

The last time Notre Dame faced off against Washington was a decade ago in 2013. The two schools met in the second round of the NCAA tournament where the Huskies would edge the Irish in a 4-3 battle that lasted over 4-hours.

Notre Dame has qualified for National Indoors three times since Ryan Sachire became the head coach, most recently in 2019. They defeated Vanderbilt in the opening round before taking out host Oklahoma to punch their ticket to National Indoors. In 2014, Notre Dame would qualify by winning the same Kentucky regional that they are playing at this weekend.
