Incoming Freshman Mitchell Tabbed HS Player of the Year

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Incoming University of Notre Dame softball freshman Joley Mitchell highlighted the All-USA High School Softball Team, earning Player of the Year honors for the teams released Tuesday by USA Today and Michael Kyllo-Kittleson of Fastpitch News.

The third baseman and catcher is a product of Rose Bud, Arkansas, and led her team to a 35-1 record en route to the Class 3A state title in 2019. Mitchell batted .717 as a senior with 55 RBI and a state record 85 runs scored. She also added 13 home runs, 34 stolen bases and reached base at an impressive .786 clip.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Joley for earning this amazing honor,” head coach Deanna Gumpf said. “She’s not only an outstanding player, but an even better person. We are so lucky to have her in our Notre Dame family.”

Mitchell finished her career with a .622 batting average, 1.386 slugging percentage, 248 total hits and 197 RBI in four years of varsity play. She led Rose Bud to four straight state championship appearances, including two titles.
