Notre Dame at Georgetown Box Score

WASHINGTON – Roy Hibbert dunked home the game-winner as time expired to give Georgetown a 55-54 win over Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon.

The Hoyas (12-5, 4-2 Big East) led for almost the entire second half until Colin Falls hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left to give Notre Dame (12-4, 4-2) a 54-53 lead. However, Ashanti Cook pushed the ball up the floor and found Hibbert inside for the jam as the clock ran out.

Officials huddled around replays for several minutes to confirm the score, and the MCI Center erupted again as Georgetown coach John Thompson pumped his fist skyward walking off the floor.

Brandon Bowman and Jeff Green scored 13 points to lead Georgetown, which has now won eight of its last 10.

Chris Quinn and Falls scored 13 points to lead Notre Dame, which struggled to find the outside shooting touch that had carried them to two straight wins over St. John’s and West Virginia.

In those two wins, the Fighting Irish hit 13 3-pointers. Sunday, however, Notre Dame shot 9-for-22 from long range and had trouble getting open shots over the lankier guards of Georgetown.

Notre Dame’s Chris Thomas hit just 3 of 11 shots and the Fighting Irish hit just 3 of their first 15 shots in the second half.

The Hoyas dominated the game inside, grabbing 13 offensive rebounds and scored 24 points in the paint – none bigger than Hibbert’s dunk at the buzzer.

Hibbert finished with 11 points and Cook had 12.
