Holloway Earns ACC Pitcher of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Graduate student Alexis Holloway earned Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance in the circle last weekend. Holloway had two appearances without allowing an earned run and threw her third career solo no-hitter in the Fighting Irish’s 4-0 win at 14th-ranked Clemson.

This is the second Pitcher of the Week award for the Irish pitching staff in 2022, with Payton Tidd earning the honor just a week ago. This is Holloway’s second ACC Pitcher of the Week honor, having previously won the award in 2021.

The no-hitter is the 48th in Irish history, and Holloway’s second of the season. After throwing one in a five-inning victory over Loyola Chicago this season, she becomes the first player to throw two no-hitters in the same season since Brittney Bargar during the 2008 season.

In Friday’s game, Holloway struck out six, three looking and allowed just four base runners on three walks and a hit batter. Holloway got help from her defense as she had one of her walks erased on a caught stealing, and another out with a line drive to the shortstop who made the catch and fired to first before the runner made it back in time. It’s the first time that the Clemson Tigers softball program has been no hit in its brief three-year existence.
