Holden, Ryan Turn In Strong Performances At U.S. Open

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A pair of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving standouts turned in strong showings at the 2012 U.S. Open in Indianapolis, Ind., last week, as 2012-13 captains Kim Holden and Kelly Ryan combined for five top-15 finishes and five finals swims.

The all-BIG EAST performers each competed in three long course (meters) events.

Ryan, who was a 2012 All-American in the 200 back, finished seventh in the event (2:13.64). The Hinsdale, Ill., product also finished 12th in the 100 back (1:02.52) and 37th in the 100 free (57.82).

Holden, who earned four all-BIG EAST scrolls in February, placed 11th in the 100 fly (1:00.69), 17th in the 100 back (1:02.27) and 19th in the 200 back (2:13.77).

The Irish return to campus this week to begin preparations for the 2012-13 campaign. They open the season on Oct. 12 with the Dennis Stark Relays at Rolfs Aquatic Center.
