NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s swimmer Kim Holden has been named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week for women’s swimming and diving, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Holden, who is an eight-time BIG EAST Champion and a 15-time all-BIG EAST Selection, won three individual events last Friday against No. 19 Purdue. She opened the meet by winning the 100 back in 54.69. The Mount Kisco, N.Y., native next won the 200 back in 1:58.51 before taking the 100 fly in 54.46. All three times were NCAA “B” times.

The tri-captain, who spent most of last season recovering from injury, has gotten off to a sensational start to her final year, winning five individual races in two dual meets.

She ranks 16th in the 100 back, 17th in the 200 back and 10th in the 100 fly nationally and is first in the 100 and 200 back and second in the 100 fly in the BIG EAST.

Holden and her Irish teammates return to the pool at Rolfs on Friday and Saturday as they welcome in BIG EAST foes Pittsburgh and Louisville for dual meets. The meet against the Panthers gets underway at 5 p.m. on Friday, while the dual with the Cardinals begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
