Notre Dame, ind. – The Notre Dame hockey team opens the 2006-07 season on Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Joyce Center when the Irish face the Minnesota State Mavericks in a 7:35 p.m. start.
For fans unable to attend the game, the Irish season opener will be streamed live on Notre Dame’s official website – und.com – via Fighting Irish All-Access. Launched on August 4, 2006, Fighting Irish All-Access provides Notre Dame fans and alumni coverage of a variety of Irish athletic events throughout the year free of charge.
All a viewer needs is a PC-based computer that is running Internet Explorer. Click on the watch now link and the Notre Dame-Minnesota State game will be available beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 12.
This will be Fighting Irish All-Access’ first visit to the Joyce Center this season and the video will include the voice over of Notre Dame hockey play-by-play announcer Mike Lockert.
In the past, hockey fans have been able to listen to audio broadcasts of Notre Dame hockey plus men’s and women’s basketball and baseball and plans are for the possibility of more live video broadcasts throughout the season.
Notre Dame comes into its season opener having played just one preseason game, that coming on Fri., Oct. 6, a 9-0 win over the University of Windsor. Minnesota State dropped its preseason game, a 4-3 loss in overtime to the University of Lethbridge on Saturday.
The Irish are coming off a 13-19-4 season while the Mavericks, members of the WCHA, were 17-18-4 a year ago. The two teams will also play in Mankato, Minn., on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:07 p.m. (CDT). Last season, Notre Dame and Minnesota State met in a home-and-home series in December with the Irish taking a 3-2 win at Mankato on Dec. 6, and the Mavericks returning the favor with a 2-1 win at the Joyce Center on Dec. 10.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series, 5-2, going 2-2 at the Joyce Center and 3-0 at Mankato.
