NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Freshman forward Michael Graham was named the Big Ten’s First Star of the Week and NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Second Star of the Week on Tuesday morning (Jan. 22).
The freshman winger potted two goals in Friday’s 6-4 victory in Madison, and added an assist on the game-winner for his first career multi-point game.
Graham continued the streak Sunday at the United Center, with goals in both the first and second periods that erased Wisconsin leads. The Irish went on to tie the Badgers, 2-2, before freshman Spencer Stastney scored a goal in double overtime to give Notre Dame a second Big Ten point.
The weekend’s performance marked the first two multi-goal games of the rookie’s career and gave him his first points since an Oct. 19-20 series against Omaha when Graham tallied a goal in game one and assist in game two.
The Fighting Irish return home this weekend (Jan. 25-26) for a Big Ten series versus Michigan State. Friday’s game will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC Sports Chicago+/NBC Sports Philadelphia+/SNY), while Saturday’s contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET (NBC Sports Chicago+/SNY). Earlier this season, Notre Dame swept a tightly contested road series at Michigan State, winning game one 3-1 (Nov. 16) and then taking game two by a score of 2-1 (Nov. 17).
