THREE NOTES TO KNOW

OVERVIEW
— The Irish are coming off a weekend split at Penn State (Oct. 16-17) and are averaging five goals per game to start the season.
— Minnesota Duluth swept a home-and-home series with Minnesota last weekend (Oct. 16-17) and opened the year with a 3-2 loss at Bemidji State (Oct. 10).
— The Notre Dame power play is 2-for-4 (6-for-13 including the exhibition games) in the beginning stages of the season, though it did not receive a power play until game two of the Penn State series.

LAST WEEKEND: SPLIT AT PENN STATE
— Notre Dame is coming off a weekend split at Penn State (Oct. 16-17), including a 7-4 game one win and a 5-3 game two loss.
— In Friday’s win, Notre Dame jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period of play and went on to post the 7-4 season-opening victory, led by senior captain Steven Fogarty’s first career hat trick.
— Fogarty also added an assist to tie his career high with four points.
Mario Lucia also matched his career high with three points (1-2-3), and his goal was the 50th of his Irish career.
— Thirteen players recorded at least one point in the two-game series versus Penn State, while nine had at least two points. Ã… Friday night’s game was the first meeting between the Nittany Lions and the Fighting Irish since Penn State joined the NCAA Div. I ranks.

MALMQUIST MAKING THE JUMP
— Freshman forward Dylan Malmquist is one of 17 NCAA Div. I players who played high school hockey last season.
— Additionally, he is one of just six players to arrive on campus straight from playing public high school hockey.
— Malmquist became the first player straight from public high school to score a goal this season (Oct. 17 at Penn State) and just the second of the 17 players playing straight from high school to score (BC’s Miles Wood scored at Army on Oct. 9).
