Hockey Announces 2004-05 Schedule

Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre hockey coach Dave Poulin today announced the 2004-05 Notre Dame hockey schedule. The 37-game schedule includes 36 regular season games along with an exhibition game versus USA Hockey’s Under-18 Developmental Team on Friday, November 19. The Irish play a challenging schedule as 17 of their 36 games will come versus teams that participated in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. The schedule features 20 home games and 14 road contests with three games to be played on neutral ice. The Irish will face Michigan Tech on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at Green Bay’s Resch Center. Later that same week, Saturday, Jan. 22, Notre Dame will face Wisconsin at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. The final neutral ice game will come on Friday, Feb. 18 when the Irish face Michigan in Fort Wayne, Ind. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. In all, Notre Dame will play 28 CCHA league contests; five games versus teams from the WCHA, two versus ECAC teams and one versus a Hockey East team. The Irish will get the season started on Sunday, Oct. 3 with their annual Blue/Gold Intrasquad scrimmage at the Joyce Center. The 2004-05 season gets underway just four days later with a home series – Thursday and Friday, Oct. 7-8 – versus NCAA Frozen Four participant, Minnesota-Duluth. Both games versus the Bulldogs will start at 7:35 p.m. The following weekend, Oct. 15-16, Notre Dame opens the CCHA schedule on the road with a pair at Miami (OH). In the CCHA, Notre Dame’s cluster partners for 2004-05 will be Bowling Green, Michigan and Michigan State. All four games with those teams will be played in home-and-home weekend series. Also visiting the Joyce Center this season, where the Irish were 14-2-2 last year, from the CCHA will be Northern Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska-Omaha and Ferris State. The Irish will travel to Miami, Western Michigan, Alaska Fairbanks and Lake Superior during the regular season. Non-league foes that will be appearing at the Joyce Center are Minnesota-Duluth, Boston College (Oct. 23), Rensselaer (Jan. 1-2) and Wisconsin (Jan. 21). The lone non-league road game for the Irish comes game for the Irish on the road comes on Tuesday, Jan. 18 when the Irish face Michigan Tech at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis. Game times for all Notre Dame home games are 7:35 p.m. for weekday games (Thursday and Friday) and 7:05 p.m. on Saturday nights. The Sunday, Jan. 2 game with Rensselaer will faceoff at 5:05 p.m. The CCHA playoffs will open the weekend of March 11-13 with a best-of-three round at campus sites. The league’s Super Six will then advance to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., March 17-19. Two games will be played on March 17 with the semifinals set for March 18 and the championship game on Saturday, March 19.
