Hockey Announces 2003-04 Schedule

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame hockey coach Dave Poulin today announced the 2003-04 Notre Dame hockey schedule. The 36-game schedule includes the 34-game regular season slate along with a preseason game with the University of Western Ontario on Friday, Oct. 3 and a visit from USA Hockey’s Under-18 Developmental Team on Friday, November 14.

Poulin also announced that the Irish have pushed back the starting time for Friday (and one Thursday) games to 7:35 p.m. This was done to give fans more time to get to Friday night games after work. The Nebraska-Omaha series, scheduled for October 30-31 at the Joyce Center will be played on Thursday and Friday night due to the November 1 football game with Florida State.

The Irish will play host to 15 regular season home games and play 19 games away from the Joyce Center. Included in the 34-game regular season schedule are 28-regular season CCHA games and six non-league games.

For the second season in a row, the non-league schedule will feature games versus teams from the Hockey East, the ECAC, College Hockey American (CHA) and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The Irish will face Hockey East’s Boston College at Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Friday, Oct. 24. In late December, the Irish will travel to Estero, Fla., to participate in the Everblades Collegiate Hockey Classic. The Irish will open with Cornell University on Saturday, Dec. 27 in a 7:05 p.m. game and then will play either Maine or Ohio State on Sunday, Dec. 28. On Saturday, Jan. 3, the Irish return home to face the University of Findlay Oiler-s from the CHA in a 7:05 p.m. game. Two weeks later, Notre Dame travels to Madison, Wis., to face the University of Wisconsin Badgers on Sat.-Sun., Jan., 17-18.

For the CCHA schedule, the Irish will be paired with Bowling Green and 2003-04 cluster opponents Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan. Notre Dame will face each of those teams four times with two games at home and two games on the road. The Irish will face the remaining eight CCHA teams just twice with Alaska Fairbanks, Ferris State, Michigan and Nebraska-Omaha visiting the Joyce Center while the Irish travel to Miami, Michigan State, Ohio State and Western Michigan.

The CCHA playoffs will open the weekend of March 12-14 with a best-of-three round at campus sites. The league’s Super Six will then advance to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., March 18-20. Two games will be played on March 18 with the semifinals set for March 19 and the championship game on Saturday, March 20.
