NOTRE DAME, Ind. Notre Dame junior forward Jenny Heft scored a hat trick as the third-ranked Irish women’s soccer team blanked 25th-ranked Wake Forest 3-0 in the final game of the KeyBank Soccer Classic at Alumni Field. In the first game of the day, Missouri junior forward Nikki Thole scored in the 90th minute as the Tigers edged Indiana 3-2. Notre Dame finished 2-0-0 on the weekend, while Missouri and Wake Forest were 1-1-0 and Indiana 0-2-0.

The Irish outshot the Deacons 16-3 in the first half as Wake Forest goalkeeper Erin Regan saved nine Irish shots. Heft scored her 10th goal of the season at 24:43 to put Notre Dame up 1-0. Streiffer chipped a pass over theDeacons back line to Heft from 12 yards on the right wing who punched the ball past a charging Regan into the lower left corner of the net.

Freshman midfielder Mia Sarkesian passed to Heft over the backline of Wake Forest, and Regan attempt to intercept the ball in the air. The ball slipped out of Regans hands, and Heft pounced with a header into the open for a 2-0 lead at 52:27. She completed her hat trick at 85:28 following a corner kick by Jen Grubb to the far post and a header by Shannon Boxx to the near post, where Heft volleyed in the final goal of the game.

Notre Dame, which improved to 8-1-0 on the year, outshot Wake Forest 30-6 as the Deacons fell to 5-3-1. Wake Forests Christie Melby and Notre Dames Monica Gerardo each received yellow cards.

In the first game on Sunday, Thole scored the game-winning goal at 89:04 as Missouri edged Indiana 3-2. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead into the second half after outshooting the Hoosiers 8-1 in the first half. Indiana rallied to tie game with goals in the 58th and 72nd minutes.

Erin Grimsley fed Thole with a ball through the backline that split the defenders. As Hoosier goalkeeper Ashley Davis came off her line, Thole booted the ball into the lower left corner of the net from 12 yards. Missouri improves to 4-3-1 with the win while Indiana falls to 5-3-0.

Notre Dame sophomore midfiedler Anne Makinen was voted tournament offensive MVP, while Irish junior defender Jen Grubb was voted defensive MVP.
