Notre Dame senior Katey Haus earned her first career ACC Player of the Week citation on Monday

Haus Named First ACC Softball Player Of The Week Of 2015

Feb. 9, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A stellar opening weekend at the plate earned University of Notre Dame softball senior infielder Katey Haus the first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week citation of the season, the conference announced on Monday.

Haus was the fourth different Irish player to be honored with a weekly award since Notre Dame joined the ACC in 2014, and the third to be named as the conference’s player of the week. Senior two-time All-American Emilee Koerner earned the nod on May 5, 2014, while sophomore All-American Karley Wester was the first Notre Dame award winner in the conference after being tabbed as the player of the week on Feb. 17 of last year.

Haus led all No. 21/22 Notre Dame hitters with a .625 batting average (10-for-16) during the team’s 4-1 opening weekend at the So Cal Collegiate Classic. Haus also paced all Irish players in home runs (3), RBI (8), slugging percentage (1.250), on-base percentage (.667) and total bases (20).

The senior third baseman opened 2015 with a base hit in Notre Dame’s 3-1 win over Utah on Feb. 6. In the nightcap against No. 6/7 UCLA, Haus added one hit and scored a crucial run during Notre Dame’s six-run seventh inning rally that helped down the host Bruins 8-4. It was the first ever win for the Irish against UCLA in Notre Dame’s nine-game series history with the 12-time NCAA champion Bruins.

Haus cranked up the offense on Feb. 7, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, a walk and two runs scored against Northwestern State. Her first inning grand slam with two outs provided the ultimate winning runs for Notre Dame against the Demons. She added a 2-for-4 output with an RBI double later in the night against host Cal State Fullerton.

Haus enjoyed her second perfect hitting day of the tournament on Feb. 8, going a spotless 3-for-3 with two solo home runs and a walk drawn in a win over Cal State Fullerton.

In only 16 at-bats this season, Haus equaled her 2014 total of three home runs that was established in 165 total at-bats. Her 19 career home runs are the third most among all active Notre Dame players, trailing only classmates Koerner (26) and Cassidy Whidden (24).
