Irish forward Luke Harangody has been racking up honors prior to his junior season.

Harangody Named AP Preseason All-American

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Luke Harangody (Schererville, Ind.), a junior forward on the Notre Dame men’s basketball team, has been named to The Associated Press’ preseason All-America squad. Harangody was one of five student-athletes selected to the team.

Last season, Harangody averaged 20.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds a game en route to being a second team consensus All-American. In addition, he was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year. Harangody has been tabbed as the 2008-09 BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year.

Harangody became the first Fighting Irish player to garner AP preseason All-America accolades since Troy Murphy in 2000-01.

Joining Harangody (58 votes) on the AP preseason All-America team was North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough (the only unanimous selection, 72 votes), Davidson’s Stephen Curry (66 votes), UCLA’s Darren Collison (46 votes) and Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin (45 votes).
