Hamilton Named Bednarik Award Player of the Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton continues to garner the weekly awards as he was named Bednarik Award Player of the Week Tuesday morning. It is his fourth honor this week after he was also named Walter Camp, PFF and Athlon Defensive Player of the Week.

Hamilton tied a career high with 10 tackles against the Boilermakers and added two pass breakups and an interception in the win. Hamilton’s biggest tackle of the afternoon came on a fourth-and-one to stop the Boilermakers on downs. The Irish offense scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive to take a lead they would not relinquish.

A native of Atlanta, Hamilton picked up his third interception of the season in the fourth quarter and is tied for the NCAA lead with 1.0 interceptions per game this year. Hamilton is the first Irish player to have three interceptions in the first three games to begin a season since Bennett Jackson and Manti Te’o also had three to begin the 2012 season.

Prior to the season Hamilton was named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, which honors the best defensive player in college football.
